Director is horrible. The worst boss I've ever had. I worked there until last week. It's a blessing that Anita Leatham will no longer be running a business. She's retiring after today. I went to the farewell party for the kids today which ended in me being thrown out the back door. I was let go for suggesting she be positive towards employees instead of constantly pointing out what she saw as mistakes. I lot of things were said, too many than what the review space allows for. In the end, I was forced to leave by one of two options. I could say I quit w/out notice or I could be fired w/ reason both of which would make it impossible for me to get unemployment benefits. She also slandered my name to parentsat the party I had previously set up babysitting jobs with to try to prevent me from getting work by telling them I am ''unstable'' and shouldn't be trusted with their children. The parents called to inform me of this later and thankfully they didn't believe her. I was told by her that I was not allowed to ''solicit'' to her customers(giving out my number to parents) while she allowed other employees to do the same thing. What kind of a human being goes after someone like this to try to bring them down and destroy their livelyhood?!
Decent place for kids, poor management.. I brought my kids here once because the fact that you could make your own schedule without a contract helped, because I don't regularly need childcare, just every once in a while. The system is nice, but you have to pay with paypal and she has 2 different links on the website to 2 different accounts, one works and the other leaves your money in limbo for about 3 weeks. This happened twice and she was unwilling to do a thing about it so I just cancelled my account. I also had 2 appointments where Anita was over half an hour late for. The day I had to set up my information she was so late that I missed my first class. Too unreliable and unhelpful with the computer glitches.
As a previous poster said, Anita Leatham is horrible to her employees. I worked there a few years ago and remain friends with 2 of her longer-term employees who quit the same time I did. She routinely hires girls with no childcare experience and literally gives them a full classroom- alone - on their first day. They get overwhelmed, don't do something exactly on schedule and in comes Anita to yell at them. She has no control over her volatile temper. I don't care how high of standards you hold your employees to, you do not have the right to literally yell at them, call them names, or make them cry for something as simple as getting behind schedule a few minutes.
In order to work there you must sign a contract revoking your "right to work" (re: quit) without financial penalty. I called the Idaho labor board on behalf of another worker and when I told them who I was calling about the representative said "oh yes...we know her down here".
Anita would fly off the handle, I mean completely out of control screaming, for the tiniest things; even things that didn't make sense. This is not just 'high standards". For example, one day she came in while I had the kids playing with play-dough to keep them occupied while I tidied up for parent pickup, "what a good activity!" she told me. Two days later I was doing the same thing and she berated me for doing such a messy activity and what was I, stupid? When I told her that just two days prior she had said play dough was a *good* idea she accused me of being a liar because she "would never say something like that".
She had me come in 1/2 an hour before the open hours to prep the school and refused to pay me for the time.
She refused to pay overtime even when it was owed. One of her longest-termed employees (several years) was owed over $400 in back overtime pay.
In one 2 month period I saw 4 different girls hired who all quit, without pay, because of how they had been treated.
She had me cook with old vegetables - I say once you can fold a carrot in half you should probably toss it out, Anita didn't think so.
When confronted with evidence of poisonous spiders under the shelves she said I was being over-dramatic.
One of our daily chores was to fill the cat-food bowl outside which is why the playground was always crawling with filthy stray cats.
This is just a personal pet-peeve: She didn't want us to clean the fish tank. When it was so coated in algae you couldn't see the fish it took me a week of begging to get her to let me clean it - on my own time of course. The next day the preschool kids were so excited! "We got fish!?"
The bottom line is, if Anita is having a bad day she takes it out on her employees. She's been sued too many times to count by angry parents and ex-employees and while the staff are generally very nice, caring women, I would never give business to someone who runs it so poorly.
Great Place for Kids!. I love this daycare! The kids are happy which makes me happy. Anita Leatham does an excellent job of managing her staff and children. Her staff follows a written, structured schedule throughout the day, unlike other daycares I've seen. You can ask to see it. It reminds me of the Nanny shows where the Nanny tapes a schedule to the fridge. It is run more like a school than a daycare which is a big plus. There are no TV's which is great. The kids are being challenged not sat in front of the t.v. It makes it tougher for the teachers, but better for the kids. Luckily there appear to be only top notch employees here. The children at this school will definitely be ready for kindergarten and beyond.
Concrndmom is not telling the full story!. I am a parent and know of the "Dangerous Place" incident this person reports about. She is not telling the full story! Her child was missing both times because she had forgotten that she had given permission for her mother to pick up her child. Despite it being her mistake, she got mad at the daycare and pressed charges. It went to court and because this woman had given permission, the charges were dropped. The daycare did get fined for one charge, the staff member, despite knowing the grandmother, did not consistently ID the grandmother every time she picked up the child. It's pathetic that people like this make silly laws, like checking a known person's ID consistently, necessary. People like this make it inconvenient for all of us, not to mention the money we taxpayers have to pay for frivilous lawsuits.
Dangerous place to take your child to.. Along that line about Anita Leatham I recently had to take my child out of her charlie frog schools because of her inability to care for and protect my child. On 2 seperate occasions she had let my child leave the daycare without my knowledge or prior approval. My daughter is 3 years old and when arriving at the daycare finding my daughter not there and Anita or her staff not even knowing who they let my daughter leave with left me in a state of total concern. I filed a report and we just got out of court procedings where she was found guilty of not following her own regulations nor was she following Idaho law concerning letting the child leave without parents approval. My question is how often does this happen? BEWARE!! I would not recomend this daycare nor Anita Leatham to watch any children.
Overall, it's a great place, but if you've got a problem child....You might want to think twice.. We like Charlie Frog Schools! My son is 4 years old and has been in home day care most of his life. He has adapted well in a class of 6 to 10 children and is learning to read. He tells me all about his day and leaves out no details. The only time I've ever frowned upon this daycare is when I have witnessed the teachers handling a difficult child. The teacher didn't know I was there and she was not communicating directly with the child. She yelled lowdly at the child and handled the child physically. It freaked me out...but since that child has left the pre-school, there hasn't been any problems and my son is really enjoying himself. I learned later that the "problem child" had some behavioral problems....still, I always question my son about his treatment and everything seems ok. Overall, it's a great place...
The managment treats the car takers, young girls mostly, with disrespect and unreasonable demands. My daughter worked there for a short time. She was yelled at in front of the children for not feeding them and getting the mess cleaned up within 15 minutes allowed for the whole group of children. Other unreasonable demands were made on more of the sitters than my daughter. My daughter then quit and the management tried to cheat her out of $200.
The place is dirty and full of spider webs, spiders and other insects. My daughter was to spray daily to keep the ants out of the class rooms.
The management is nice to your face but will bite the employees heads off at the least item she doesn't like.
Don't work there. Take your children there at your own risk.
Poor management. I loved the gal who actually cared for my child but was often upset with the management. When I signed on they informed me they were open at 7:00 am but when i brought my child no one was there often until 10 min after or even 20 min after. It was such an imposition because of the time I had to be at work. The final straw for me was when I would arrive and the lights were on but the doors were locked until 7:15 or even 7:20. I decided to look elsewhere for my needs which was unfortunate because I really like the gal who actually took care of my child.
